Barbara Ann Jones was born on March 17, 1946, to Douglas Ray Hilliard & Alpha Mae Matthews Hilliard. While growing up in Comanche, her parents owned & operated a local grocery store. Barbara graduated from Comanche High School in 1964.
In 1969, Barbara became a mother when she had her son, Gayle. In 1973, Barbara had her daughter, Holli. In 1974, Barbara got her Medical Transcriptionist Certification. In 1987, Barbara got her Certification in advanced CPT, ICD-9 coding for Medicare & Medicaid. In 1988, Barbara got her X-Ray Technician Certification from The Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Barbara worked many years in the medical field using her Certifications. Barbara loved socializing at local & charity events. Barbara was known for running a concession stand at Melody Oaks Ranch dances & annual events. Barbara enjoyed having meals with family, swimming & fishing. Barbara was a member of Sidney Baptist Church, and a member of The Epsilon Sigma Alpha International Sorority, where she served over 20 years. Barbara was on The Board of Directors for Caring for Comanche County for many years. In 1998, at the age of 52, Barbara decided to make a change in her life that would take her on a new career path. Barbara enrolled in school to become a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. Barbara graduated in 2000 & began using her new License. Barbara worked at T.R. Havins Unit in Brownwood, Texas until 2021 when she retired. Barbara’s story of going to school at age 52 to follow your dreams certainly inspired & encouraged others. Barbara was famous for her peanut brittle & hot rolls she would make endlessly during the holidays. Barbara certainly had a talent for creating unique decorations on a budget. Barabara enjoyed hosting/attending garage sales, sewing & owned a consignment store twice in her lifetime.
Barbara loved her children, friends & family dearly. On July 14, 2024, God called her home to Heaven while sleeping peacefully.
Barbara is survived by her son, Gayle Jones & wife, Belinda and daughter, Holli Read & Jay Wilson, all of Sidney; her sister, Laura Adcock of Comanche; grandchildren, Byron, Kassie, Landon, Lacey & Allissa; and great grandchildren, Roman, Daymion, Bella, Syrena, Vol, Emrik, Scarlett & Ally.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas & Alpha Mae Hilliard, Rodger Gayle Jones & Harold Dean Adcock.
