Barbara Matthews

Barbara Sue Kanady “Granny” Matthews, age 79, passed away on February 5, 2023 at her home in Comanche, after a 6 month battle with cancer. She was born October 1, 1943, to Bert and Addie Mae Wetzel Kanady. She was united in marriage to Robert Nelse Matthews on September 19, 1964, and on November 1, 1966, they welcomed twin daughters, Linda and Belinda, and on November 16, 1972, their daughter, Dianna. She was a caregiver for many years, loved to bake and cook for her family and friends. She loved her coffee, sweet tea, Dr. Pepper, and sweets of all kinds. She loved watching her two favorite soap operas, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and Beautiful everyday. She loved garage sales, junk and antique stores. She had a love for cats and had many of them, even the strays didn’t go hungry!

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Matthew; daughters, Linda Barron and son-in-law, Buster Hicks, Belinda Jones and husband, Gayle, and Dianna; grandchildren, Chasta, Skyler, Colton, Hayden, Peyton, Byron, Kassie, Landon, and Lacey; great-grandchildren, Daymion, Roman, Izabella, Syrena, Volentine, Emrik, Scarlett, Paxton, Adley, and another great-grandchild due in August 2023; niece, Sheila Koen; nephew, Waylon Koen; and great-niece, Haley Koen.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Virginia Ann Koen; nephew, Harlan Wayne “Kornbread” Koen.
