GRAVESIDE SERVICE:  3:00 P.M. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Cox Cemetery in Comanche County. VISITATION:  Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Wednesday night from 6:30 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. Bill Bessent, age 82, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014, in Rising Star, Texas. He was born on June 19, 1931, in San Saba, Texas, to William Townsend Bessent and Ethel Della (Skaggs) Bessent. Bill was a Korean War veteran, serving in the United States Army, and he was a member of the National Rifle Association. On January 13, 1964, he was united in marriage to Lucille Yvonne Boatman in Comanche, Texas. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2000. For many years he worked as a driller in the Texas oil fields in the Big Lake area. Bill loved gardening and all animals and had a passion for raising Bassett Hounds.   He was a Baptist. He is survived by daughters, Melinda Elaine Bessent of Dublin and Tina Lucille Banford of May; step-daughter, Trena Yvonne Aly and husband Joe Earl of Comanche; step-son, James Dee Young, Jr. of Lubbock; six grandchildren: Trever, Brittany, Joe, Jerame, Amber, and Jimmy Tom; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Allen Bessent of Sidney, and Prentice Bessent of San Angelo; sisters, Louise Rogers of Sherman, Peggy Sue Barns of Comanche, and Mary Ruth Harmon of Lampasas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
