Carmen Glory Wahl Carnes passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born August 5, 1929, in Melvin, Texas, to John and Annette Wahl who immigrated from a small village South of Helsingborg, Sweden in 1917. Carmen was extremely proud of her Swedish heritage and one of the greatest thrills of her life was to visit the homeland of her parents in 1999. In 1947 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Rex Carnes in Comanche. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1992. She was a wonderful wife and mother – caring and giving. She had a vivacious outgoing personality and was loved by all who met her. Carmen was a long time resident of Comanche and was employed as a bookkeeper for Higginbotham’s Lumber Company for many years. Carmen loved country music – Waylon, Willie and the boys; boys such as George Strait and Eddy Raven. Another great thrill of her life was meeting Waylon Jennings. She loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys. She cried when they lost and she cried when they won. She supported her children and grandchildren in all sports activities, attending many football games, basketball games, track meets and soccer games. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Charles (Rusty) Carnes and wife, Valerie, of Amarillo; daughter, Debra Ann Carnes House and husband, Robert, of Crowley; grandson, Travis Ryan Carnes and wife, Christina, of Magnolia; grandson, Grayson Brett Carnes of Amarillo; and one brother, Tommy Wahl of Chapmansboro, Tennessee.
