GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 25, 2011, at Sardis Cemetery in Comanche County. VISITATION: Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. He was born on March 15, 1932, in Encino, New Mexico, to William and Alma Bessie (Lewis) Harris. He was a veteran of both the United States Navy and United States Air Force. On October 10, 1980, he was united in marriage to Melba Hulene McDonald in Ruidoso, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2011. For twenty years Smokey and Hulene owned and operated Texas Corral Restaurant until they retired in 2005 and moved to Comanche County. He was a Baptist. He is survived by sons, Joe Smith and wife Peggy of Comanche, Johnny Smith and wife Eva of Proctor, Chuck Harris and wife Doris of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Duane Baker of Socorro, New Mexico; daughters, Kaylene Smith of Fort Worth, Reta Dugan of White Settlement, Neta Keith of White Settlement, Keta Smith and husband Gary of Austin, Sharon Ward and husband Jody of Alabama, Peggy Barbieri of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Denise Boldin of Albuquerque, and Anita Stephens of Los Lunas; fourteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, John David Smith; two sisters; and three brothers.
