Charles D. Johnson, age 84, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas. He was born on July 23, 1928, in Comanche County, Texas to Derroic Monroe Johnson and Cleo McCullough Johnson. He was married to Ruby Mae Layman on April 20, 1956 in Comanche County, Texas. Charles worked as an equipment operator for Texas State Highway Department for 30 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Comanche. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Sharla and Eddie Cox of Comanche, Texas, daughter Kyra Crutchfield of The Colony, Texas; grandchildren: James L. Cox III and wife Kim, Shelly Cox, Chris Crutchfield, Chuck Crutchfield and Cassandra Crutchfield; great-granddaughter Samantha Cox; sister-in-law, Lou Johnson of Comanche, Texas; 2 nieces and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Mae Johnson on October 17, 2012 and brother Levie Johnson in March, 2007. He was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Bruce Crutchfield in October, 2009. Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, with Rev. Wayne Lewis officiating.
