Charlotte graduated from Comanche High School and attended Tarleton College, but returned to Comanche during the war to work for Green and Waring Insurance Company, and ran the Western Union office at her family’s drugstore. On January 29, 1943, she was united in marriage to Chester McKinzie in Comanche. Both Charlotte and Chester were lifelong residents of Comanche. She joined her husband at Durham Drug Products and they operated the business for over 60 years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church for over 60 years and was one of the oldest continual members there. She taught Sunday School, had a children’s choir, and was a member of the church choir for many years. She had a Girl Scout Troop and was a charter member of the Heritage Club. Charlotte and Chester lived happily together for 67 years. They enjoyed traveling by going on many cruises throughout the Caribbean and Alaska, going to Europe, and visiting their family in Austin often. Charlotte took great pleasure in her beautiful yard, took much pride in her giant Magnolia tree, and enjoyed feeding and watching the many birds that flocked to her backyard.
