MEMORIAL SERVICE: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel. Claborn W. Kerley, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, in Comanche County, Texas. He was born on September 27, 1924, in Comanche, to William Edward and Dollie (Powell) Kerley. Claborn was a WWII veteran, serving in the United States Navy. As a young seaman first class he was instrumental in rescuing survivors from the merchant ship Cape San Juan, which was torpedoed by the Japanese in the Southwest Pacific Ocean. He retired from the Matagorda Bay Marine District, where he was employed to oversee harbor facilities. He is survived by his son, Richard W. Kerley of Colleyville; daughter, Glenda Carrel Moberg of Victorville; sisters, Marcell Donaldson and Jane Kirk both of Comanche; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer “Bud” Kerley; and five sisters, Essie Hanes, Mina Nelms, Lorene Wilson, Lena Mae Thompson, and Ozella Wilson Wooton.
