Daisy Kent King, age 96, of Cross Plains, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, on Thursday, June 19, 2014. She was born on February 4, 1918, in Cross Plains to Charlie and Alice (Jones) Kent, who were long time Calahan County pioneers. Mrs. King was raised in Cross Plains and attended Cross Plains schools. Later, after moving to Odessa, she met Ray M. King and was married to Mr. King on December 20, 1950. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1985. The majority of their married life was lived in Bagdad, Arizona, where Mr. King was in the mining industry. In the 1980’s they returned to Cross Plains for retirement. The Kings enjoyed traveling through the southwestern United States. On these trips they explored historical mining towns and the surrounding geographical markers. Daisy was a devoted member of the United Church of God. She was also an excellent seamstress and loved music, especially the fiddle. Daisy especially enjoyed attending the monthly Cottonwood Musical and visiting with people. Left to cherish memories of Daisy are numerous nephews and nieces, step-daughter, Carol Jean King Turner of Show Low, Arizona, her church family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, ten brothers and sisters and a step-daughter, Marlene King.
