Darlene Nelms

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 7, 2014, at Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche. VISITATION: 12:30 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home until time to leave for the cemetery. Darlene Nelms, age 73, of Spring, Texas, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014 in Houston, Texas. She was born on Thursday, September 19, 1940, in Gorman, to Erbin Cathey and Vera (Richardson) Cathey. On January 14, 1956, she was united in marriage to James Nelms in Comanche. For twenty-five years Darlene, together with her husband James, owned and operated Nelms Small Engine in Comanche. Darlene was ”Nana” to many children when she worked at Comanche Daycare Center at First Baptist Church of Comanche. For many years she played the piano for First Christian Church in Comanche and Gartman View Free Will Baptist Church in Comanche County. She was a homemaker and was a member of East Side Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, James A. Nelms of Spring; daughter, Aretta Lyn and husband Michael David of Houston; grandson, Steven Colt and wife Cassandra Erin of Flower Mound; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
