FUNERAL SERVICES: 2:00 P.M. Friday at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel. BURIAL: Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Comanche County. VISITATION: Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8 P.M. LUNCH: Family will have lunch at 11:30 A.M. on Friday at The Southern Hospitality Room, 106 E. Central, Comanche, Texas 76442. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Santa's Helpers of Comanche, c/o Kerry Dudley, 807 W. Barnes Avenue, Comanche, Texas 76442. David Frank Gilbert passed away at the Hendrick Hospital in Abilene, Texas on Sunday, July 27th, 2014 at the age of 66. He was born in Brownwood, Texas on March 2nd, 1948 to Mary and Otis Gilbert. He attended school in Alvin and Comanche, Texas. He served his country in the US Navy from 1967-1971. He was on the USS Midway ship and the USS Hornet that picked up the Apollo 11 in July 1969, when they landed in the ocean after the first moon walk. He was a retired lineman foreman who went to Louisiana in 2005 to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. David was a very special man. He loved his wife, children and friends; however he was especially proud of each and every grandchild. He loved spoiling them and he did that very well. He was a loving, simple, unselfish man who believed in helping anyone that needed it. He enjoyed fishing and watching the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys. He is survived by his wife Wanda and his children – Kelly Kane and husband Landon of San Antonio, Texas, David “Bubba” Gilbert of Comanche, Texas, Jaret Gilbert of Brownwood, Texas, Susanne Partin and husband Dan of Priddy, Texas and Marlena Smith and husband Philip of Mineral Wells, Texas. His very special grandchildren Jim Bob Partin of Hamilton, Texas, Braylan Laminack of Cross Plains, Texas, Harper and Hudson Kane of San Antonio, Texas, Daylan Gilbert of Comanche, Texas and Audrey Smith of Mineral Wells, Texas. One brother, Lewis Gilbert and wife Joyce of Alvin, Texas and two sisters, Barbara Cole of Alvin, Texas and Susan White and husband Ray of Comanche, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents – Mary and Otis Gilbert and his niece, Jane Norwood.
