Gary Don Rogers, 85, passed away peacefully at his home April 10, 2024, surrounded by family. Don was born at home in Gustine, Texas on July 13, 1938 to Hollis and Gladys Rogers. He attended school in Comanche and he was a member of the graduating class of 1957.
After graduation he joined the United States Army and served from 1961 to 1966. After his discharge he began a career in cabinetry for several years. He traveled throughout the United States sharing his talent and love of woodworking. He spent several years working with his Dad, Hollis Rogers and brother-in-law, Roger Murphree, laying brick and rock. Years later, he drove a school bus for Comanche ISD until retirement due to health conditions. After retirement, he became an avid gardener and always shared his prized vegetables with employees at the Courthouse and Bank. He was the "go to guy" if anyone had honeybees that needed to be removed. he had a gift of gab, always knew what was happening in town, and never met a stranger.
Don was predeceased in death by Margaret Rogers, his wife and mother of their 3 children, his parents, Hollis and Gladys Rogers, and his sister, Linda Feist.
He is survived by his children, Teresa Clifton and husband Keith of Abilene, Tx and Connie Henry and Dana Cogburn, both of Comanche, grandchildren Cassie Tunstall and husband, Philip, Brian Clifton and wife, Taylor, Zane Henry, Austin Henry, and wife, Laura, Dalton Zimmerman, Kelton Cogburn and Christopher Cogburn. Also surviving are 9 great-greatchildren, Charlee Rose Clifton, Olivia Joy Clifton, Travis Henry, Addison Henry, Jameson Henry, Wyatt Henry, Audrey Tunstall, Heath Tunstall, and Emberly Tunstall.
He is also survived by two sisters, Jan Murphree of Comanche and Betty Whitley of Brownwood.
Viewing will be at Comanche Funeral Home, April 11, 2024. Funeral Service are to be held at White Point Cemetery, TX-590, Comanche, Texas on April 12, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Officiating will be Keith Clifton and grandsons serve as Pallbearers.
