Wednesday evening at the funeral home LUNCH: Family will have lunch at the First Baptist Church of Comanche at 12:00 Noon on Thursday. Gorman Randall Hawkins, age 89, of Euless, Texas, formally of Comanche, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2012, at Baylor Regional Medical Center in Grapevine. He was born on March 22, 1923, in Goldthwaite, Texas, to John and Annie (Regian) Hawkins. On November 25, 1942, he was united in marriage to Frances Elizabeth Williams in Brownwood, Texas. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in November of this year. Gorman was a veteran of World War II. He served in the United States Army as a member of the 739th Tank Battalion and fought many battles under General Patton during the liberation of Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the army was evident throughout his lifetime. For many years he owned and operated a dairy in the Mercer Gap area in Comanche County, and later moved from Comanche County and opened a Baskin Robbins Ice Cream store and then a Southern Maid Donuts store. After retirement, he moved back to Comanche where he resided for several years, and then to Burleson for 12 years before moving to Euless. Gorman was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church in Burleson. He is survived by his wife, Frances Hawkins of Euless; two sons, Ricky Hawkins of Plano and Mark Hawkins of Euless; one sister, Cynthia E. Leverett of Buda; brother-in-law, Robert Williams and wife LaRita of Comanche; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
