FUNERAL SERVICES: 3:00 P.M. Saturday, October 30, at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel BURIAL: Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche. VISITATION: Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. LUNCH: Lunch will be at the family home, 451 CR 229, Comanche. Box 742, Comanche, Texas 76442 Harold Lavern Roberts, age 88, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010, at Comanche County Medical Center, Comanche County, Texas. He was born on December 10, 1921, in Comanche County to James Carl and Minnie Ola (Tate) Roberts. On June 12, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dixie Helen Massingill in Comanche. She preceded him in death in 1988. In 1941 Harold enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for five years in the Pacific and earned six Battle Stars on the U.S.S. Hutchins during World War II. He joined the United States Army and served for twenty-three years, retiring as a Major. For five years he worked in Military Intelligence for the Department of Defense as a Commander of 66th MI Group. Harold earned a Bachelor of Science Degree as well as a Law Degree. He was a Member of Hope Lutheran Church in Comanche and a Comanche County Museum Board member. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Harold L. Jr. and Franziska Roberts of Cedar Park; son and daughter-in-law, David and Rose Roberts of Glen Allen, Virginia; granddaughters, Jennifer Curry of Portsmouth, Virginia, Jessica Roberts of Cedar Park, Emily Ottmers of McKinney, and Elissa Roberts of San Antonio; grandsons, Carl Roberts of Cedar Park, Cpt. Erich Roberts of Fort Benning, Georgia, and Jonathan Roberts of Cedar Park; great-grandsons, Nicholas Curry of Portsmouth and Jackson Ottmers of McKinney; great-granddaughters, Gracie Curry of Portsmouth and Olivia Ottmers of McKinney; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Betty Roberts of Proctor; sister, Betty Carruth of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Roberts; one brother, Thomas Richard Roberts, and parents, James Carl and Minnie Ola Roberts.
