Jack Leon Adams, 74, of Comanche, Texas went to heaven on January 16, 2014 at 5:35 pm. He was blessed to have his loving wife, Nancy, and his family by his side. While his favorite song “My Way” by Frank Sinatra was playing, Jack made his final journey; the transition from the physical life to the spiritual life, ever after. Jack was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2001 and was told there is no cure and you have 2 years to live, and in true Jack Adams fashion, he squared-off against the cancer and was determined to live his life on his terms, even if that meant sharing it with cancer. And, that’s exactly what he did. In 1990 Jack left Tenneco and started Adams Stevens Associates in Houston, Texas. Jack knew there was another adventure awaiting him and set out to find it. Thus began the life of Double Creek Ranch in Comanche, Texas. Jack was a quick study of ranching and along with Nancy they bought, raised and sold Brangus Cattle. Thanksgiving was always a magical time on the Ranch with campfires, story-telling, hunting and painting wooden fence posts as turkey feathers for the round bale turkeys ~ life was well lived on the ranch. Jack could always be seen wearing his khaki pants and khaki shirt (his standard uniform) covered in grass & dirt ~ he was never happier! Although Jack was very successful at his previous careers, at Double Creek Ranch, Jack had found his true happiness. Jack loved his family and he loved his land. Everyone who knew Jack has a story about him and the Ranch, and these stories will be shared among his friends and family for many years to come. There will be much laughter and a few tears as memories of Jack are shared. Jack was born in Portales, New Mexico on July 13, 1939 to Rex and Joyce Adams. He received both his Bachelor and Masters Degree in Engineering from New Mexico State University. Jack married Nancy Gillin on April 1, 1977. Jack is survived by Nancy, his cherished wife of 36 years; his daughter, Nicole Ireland and her husband Troy and their children Aubrey, Kerby and Brock; his son Doak Adams and his wife Lisa and their children Trevor, Sasha, and Parker; and his son Scott Adams and his fiancé Casie Wimberley and her children Kayli and Zachery. Jack is also survived by his brother David Adams and his wife Pam, from Vancouver, Washington, and three sisters: Marita Kaufman from Huntsville, Alabama; Joy Phillips from Nevada; Mildred Bookout and her husband, Norvel, from Tularosa, New Mexico along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, Jack was preceded in death by his mother and father, Joyce and Rex Adams, and two brothers, Elmer Adams from Keaau, Hawaii and Bobby Adams from Hazelton, British Columbia. Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Sunday night from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Harold Higginbotham officiating. Lunch for the family will be at 12 noon at the Lindsey Building, 404 East Cedar, Comanche, Texas. At Jack’s wishes, a special memorial ceremony will be held at a later date to have his ashes spread over Double Creek Ranch. God’s speed Jack Adams ~ you leave behind a great legacy. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you contribute to the cancer society of your choice.
