Jackie Lynn Hicks, 80, lifelong resident of Comanche, Texas. passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday January 23, 2025, in Stephenville, Texas. Jackie was a farmer, rancher, and cattle buyer.
Jackie was born in Comanche on March 23, 1944, to Harvey Anglin Hicks and Artie Mae (Burdette) Hicks. On April 2, 1965, Jackie married Mary Jane (Lane) Hicks, and they were married for almost 60 years. The union raised three children, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren that Jackie affectionately called “His Herd”.
Jackie was a Christian and a member of East Side Baptist Church in Comanche for more than 60 years. He served as treasurer of the church and on various other committees. Jackie also served as a member of the Comanche ISD board of trustees. In addition, Jackie and Mary Jane were named Agriculture Family of the year in 2018.
Jackie was a man who would always shake your hand and look you in the eyes. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Dallas Cowboys, Baylor Bears and the PBR and loved a good 42 game. Jackie enjoyed spending time with family whether watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events or competing in stock shows, and he always looked forward to annual family vacations. Any time was a good time when Jackie was around, he always had a corny joke and a hearty laugh.
Jackie is survived by his wife Mary Jane, children, daughter Lara Wilhelm (Tommy), sons Lane Hicks, and Laramie Hicks (Dinae). Grandchildren, Lauren Alexander (Jake), Kaylee Parks (Cole), Westin Wilhelm, Koltin Hicks (Katie), Hannah Reichmann (William), Abbygail Hicks, Austin Hicks, Cross Hicks, Faith Hicks, and Justice Hicks. Great-grandchildren, Holtin Parks, Antin Hicks, Heidee Parks, Paislea Wilhelm, Jack Alexander, Piper Wilhelm, Penelope Alexander, Eva Reichmann and Luke Alexander and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. Also, a sister-in-law, Cindy Narretta (George) plus bonus family, Amanda Hicks and Lindsea Wilhelm.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Olan Hicks and Robert Hicks, sisters Molene Easley, Marie Easley, Robbie Ripley, Nita (Hicks) Hicks and Jean Schultz and parents-in-law Jack and Georgia Lane.
The service was officiated by Reverend Steven Schulte on Monday January 27th at East Side Baptist Church in Comanche. The pallbearers were Neil Carroll, Kinley Sorrells, Wayne Mazurek, Gary Lacy, Owen Bean, Henry Hughitt, Brett Keith, and Ray Mazurek. Internment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche.
