James Roy Edinburgh, age 81 years, 7 months and 14 days, of Comanche, Texas, died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Comanche County Medical Center in Comanche County, Texas. He was born on August 20, 1928 in Gustine, Texas to Martin Luther Edinburgh and Jessie Myrtle “Johnson” Edinburgh. He was a member of the First Baptist church in Comanche, Texas and a member of the Kiwanis Club in Comanche. He received a BA degree from Baylor University in May 1961. In June 1966, he received a masters degree from California State University. Mr. Edinburgh was an ordained Baptist Minister for 35 years. He helped organize five new Southern Baptist Churches and led two other Southern Baptist Churches to fulltime churches. Mr. Edinburgh taught math and social studies. For forty years, he taught school at Apple Valley High School and Hesperia Junior High School in California. After retiring and moving to Texas, he taught school in De Leon, Texas for three years, Gustine, Texas for seven years and Mullin for five years. James Roy Edinburgh was united in marriage to Helen Marie Gifford on June 23, 1946 in Gustine, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Helen Marie Edinburgh, Comanche, Texas; daughter, Judy Marie Edinburgh, De Leon, Texas; granddaughter, Teresa Marie Garcia, Elk City, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Nonnie Julie Watson, De Leon, Texas; granddaughter, Cindy Sue Jones, Texas; (9) Great-Grandchildren and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Luther Edinburgh and Jessie Myrtle Edinburgh, by one brother, Andy Ray Edinburgh and by one sister Maxine Poyer. Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Zac Harrel and Dr. Van Christian Officiating. Burial will be in the Siloam Cemetery in Comanche County, Texas with Comanche Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
