FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel. VISITATION: Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Friday, February 9, 2018, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. LUNCH: Lunch for the family will be at Pettit Baptist Church following the funeral services. Jimmie Ray Swann, 81 of Midland, formerly of Gustine, TX, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, February 04, 2018. Jim was born on January 7, 1937 in Hamilton, TX to Ray and Judine Swann. He was the eldest of 2 children. He graduated from Gustine High School in 1955. He married Neva Jo Sartor on June 16th, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Gustine. They moved from Ft. Worth to Comanche, TX where they welcomed their first daughter, Kimberly. The young family then moved to Hobbs, NM where he went to work for Southwestern Public Service. Hobbs is where they welcomed three more daughters, Kerry, Susan, and Stacy. While working in Hobbs, Jim earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of the Southwest in Hobbs. In the late 1960’s the family moved to Coahoma, TX, where Jim went to work for Cosden & Fina. He was later transferred to Midland. Upon retirement, Jim and Neva returned to Gustine, TX. Due to Jim’s failing health, they recently moved back to Midland to be closer to family. Jim loved his family above all. He had a subtle sense of humor appreciated by all. He loved boating and sailing at the lake. He enjoyed music and loved going to band concerts. He was an avid reader of history. Jim became a Mason at the age of 21 of the Fleming Lodge of Gustine and is currently a member of Hope Lodge #481 in Comanche where he received a 50 year pin. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Lubbock and was a past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Coahoma. Jim was mechanically inclined. He shared his mechanical knowledge with his daughters, so they would know the difference between a screwdriver and a crescent wrench and how to change the oil in their own cars. His focus was for his girls to be educated and independent. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Neva Jo; his four daughters and sons-in-law - Kim and Rickey Evans of Midland, Kerry and Nick Fairrie of Great Britain, Susan and Mark Miller of Big Spring, and Stacy and Paul Turney of Capitan, NM. He had six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one on the way. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Thomas Phil Swann.
