Ann McCullough Staley, 74, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, formerly of Comanche, Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico, passed away on Tuesday, June 28th, 2011 after a year long illness. Jo Ann McCullough was born May 12, 1937 in Gorman, TX, daughter of Thermon and Ona Mae McCullough of Comanche, TX. She grew up on the family farm in Comanche County and attended Comanche High School. She married M. D. Mann of Crane, TX in August 1954 with whom she had two children, her surviving son and daughter Deborah Ann who died in infancy. The couple moved to Hobbs, NM in 1962 and was divorced in 1964. She began an art gallery business in Hobbs where she displayed her own art works as well as those of other southeast New Mexico artists and gave private art lessons to adults and children for many years until retiring from the business in 1981. She was a well known local artist in southeast New Mexico winning numerous awards in art shows from Albuquerque to Dallas, for a time wrote a weekly arts column for the Hobbs Flare and hosted a local access cable art program featuring local artists. She married V. E. Staley in September 1980 and the couple relocated to Horseshoe Bay, TX in 1986 to enjoy their retirement. She is survived by her son, Douglas Mann and wife, Kathy, of Katy, TX; brothers, Harold McCullough and wife, Marjorie, of Hobbs, NM and Gary McCullough of Comanche County, TX; her late husband’s children Pete Staley and wife, Barbara, of Farmington, NM, Carole Staley Jacobs and husband, Stan, of Midland, TX and Judy Staley Allman and husband, John, of Albuquerque, NM; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, V. E. Staley.
