FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel. BURIAL: Carlton Cemetery in Hamilton County, Texas. Box 152, Gustine, Texas 76455. Joe Damon Moore, age 78, passed away at his home in Gustine, Texas, on Monday, September 23, 2013. He was born on August 13, 1935, in Dublin, Texas, to Pearl Turney Moore and Henry Battle Moore. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1959, with a degree in agronomy. On June 5, 1959, he married Joan Gail Bird in Lovington, New Mexico. She preceded him in death. He married Patsy Homer in Austin on September 25, 1994. Joe served thirty-one years with the U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service, working in Marshall, Jacksboro, Eastland, Stephenville and Terrell. He retired after working in Temple as State Agronomist. He loved working with farmers and ranchers across Texas. He was proud to be called a “dirt dobber”, was one of the principal authors of the Soil Survey of Comanche County and worked on surveys of many other Texas counties. He retired in 1990 and returned to live on a family farm near Gustine where he raised peanuts and cows for many years. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Moore of Gustine, two daughters, Lisa Gay Moore Priest of Aubrey and Joan Dell Moore Franklin of Euless; four grandchildren: Lauren Dell Franklin, who graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, in August, 2013, Ryan Priest who is attending Texas A & M University in College Station, Jennifer Gail Franklin who is attending Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma, and Kelley Jo Priest, who is attending the University of North Texas in Denton; brother, John Moore and wife Aileen of Gustine; sister, Janice Pack and husband Albert of Stephenville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Jack Norman Moore.
