John Edwin Gleaton was a long time resident of Comanche, Texas. John was born on November 9th, 1941. He was 83 years old when he passed on to meet his Lord and Savior Christ on January 2nd, 2025.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Margie; father, Eugene "Cap" Gleaton; mother, Vonda Gleaton; and sister, Jeannine Howard. John is survived by his son, Marcus and daughter-in-law, Shannon Gleaton; daughter, Elizabeth Gleaton; son, Kevin and daughter-in-law, Wendy Cude. He is also survived by grandsons, Jaxon Gleaton, Josh Gleaton, Elliot Cude and wife, Rebecca, Mitchell Cude and wife, Ellie; granddaughters, Jillian Gleaton, Chloe Cude and Madison Edwards along with great grandchildren, Piper, Beauden, Oliver and Robbie Lyn, brother-in-law, Will Howard and wife, Marilyn, as well as many nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Comanche High School in 1960. He played football and basketball at Comanche, earning a scholarship to play football at Texas Christian University. After graduating from TCU, John attended South Texas School of Law earning his Doctor of Jurisprudence. John then moved back to Comanche to begin working as an attorney and eventually took over the Comanche County Abtract Company. He earned his 50-year pin from Texas State Bar Association a few years ago with great pride. John was active in the community, serving as an attorney, Comanche ISD school board member, local youth baseball coach, PAR County Club tournament director and Sunday school teacher. John loved to play golf with his wife, Margie, his son Marcus, all his grandsons and the weekly Nassau groups. John also gained much joy out of cheering on the Comanche Indian sports teams and his beloved TCU Horned Frogs. He loved attending games at Amon Carter stadium and traveling to bowl games during their successful season with his wife, Margie and daughter, Elizabeth. John loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed watching them participate in other extracurricular activities. John and Margie spent several summers in Ruidoso. They always looked forward to spending time in Ruidoso with family and friends, whether it be time on the golf course, time at the casino, or time at the horse races.
A memorial service for John will be held at the First Methodist Church of Comanche on February 1st, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Comanche County Healthcare Foundation.
