Austin Street, Comanche Texas 76442; or American Cancer Society, 804 Wrights Avenue, Comanche Texas 76442 Kathleen “Katy” Mims, age 73, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014, at her residence in Comanche County, Texas. She was born on September 10, 1940, in Fort Madison, Iowa, to Arthur and Ida H. (Harnagel) Queisner. After graduating from Montrose High School, in Montrose, Iowa, Katy attended Iowa State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. She attended Menorah Medical Center School of Medical Technology and graduated as a Medical Technician (ASCP). On August 31, 1963, she was united in marriage to Roy Dante Mims, Jr., in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2013. She was Laboratory Director at Comanche Community Hospital for twenty-seven years, after which she was employed at Doctor’s Medical Clinic for fourteen and a half years. Katy was very active in the community and from 1969-1994, was a member of the Comanche Library Board, and from 1964-1988 was a member of Comanche Garden Club, serving as President from 1974-1976 and 1986-1988. For eleven years she was a volunteer feeder at Western Hills Healthcare Center and she was a trained ESL Reading teacher in the Laubach Method. She was Benefactor of Kathleen Q. Mims Science Scholarship at Iowa State University. Katy was a member of First Baptist Church of Comanche. She is survived by her son, Steven Mims and wife Lisa of Comanche; daughter, Sara Mims of Fort Worth; four grandchildren: Jeffrey Laffoon and wife Sabrina, Lauren Laffoon and Partner Crystal Braddock, Kyle Laffoon, and Nickolas McGinn and wife Mary; four great-grandchildren; sisters: Anita Proffitt of St Augustine, Florida, Ruth Knobbs of Comanche, Mary Land and husband Mel of Montrose, Iowa, Judith Queisner of Denver, Colorado, and Barbara Sperbeck and husband Herb of Tavares, Florida; sister-in-law, Jean Hicks of Kerrville; twenty-seven nieces and nephews; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Ida Queisner; and three sisters: Lois Dobson, Evelyn Hull and June Smith.
