Kyle L. (Cotton) Welch, age 96, of Comanche, Texas, went home to our Lord on Monday, October 16, 2023, while still living at home. He was born to Clint and Georgia (Warren) Welch on December 2, 1926, in DeLeon, Texas. While growing up in Beattie, Texas, on the family farm, he received the nickname of Cotton, due to his cotton white hair, which stuck with him for the remainder of his life, even though his hair darkened as he aged.
After graduation from Beattie High School, he served for 2 years as military police in the Army, during WWII. Upon returning home, Cotton met and married the love of his life, Florence Jo Coan on June 2, 1951. To this union were born 2 children, Travis and Judy. After many years of farming and ranching in the Beattie community, Cotton stayed busy during retirement with numerous projects. Cotton loved basketball and was a big supporter of school athletics. He loved watching his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids in their athletic events. He was a fan of the Dallas Mavericks, the Texas Rangers, and Dallas Cowboys. He also loved traveling the states to see the wonders of nature with family and friends. He was a long time member of a bowling league.
Cotton is survived by his wife, Florence Jo, of 73 years; son, Travis Welch and wife, Patsy, of Comanche; and daughter, Judy Welch of Comanche. Cotton was affectionately known as “Pa Pa” by his grandchildren surviving him whom include: Heath Welch and wife, Demrie, of Dallas, Clint Welch and wife, Carrey, of Comanche, Cody Johnston of Comanche, Kyla Welch Marshall and husband, Neil, of Dallas, and Jake Kennedy of Comanche. His great-grandchildren include Caleb, Madelynn, Branden, Hudson, Guy, Hope, Quinn, Cooper, Ashlyn, Briggs, William, Anthony, and one great-great grandson, Josiah. He has one surviving brother, Jackie Welch and wife, Patsy of Arlington and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his beloved cat, Suzy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Georgia Welch; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth “Slim” Welch and wife, Alma, Kellis Welch and wife, Elsie Jo, and Jerry Welch and wife Geraldine.
