Larry Neal Cheatham of Sidney, Texas passed away on March 1, 2024 in Abilene, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at Comanche Funeral Home on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 2:00 pm with light refreshments at the Sidney Baptist Church to follow.
Larry was born in Sidney, Texas on June 21, 1942 to Daniel Augustine (Gus) Cheatham and Myrtle Arabelle (Russell) Cheatham. He was raised in Sidney and graduated from Sidney High School in 1960. He attended Cisco Junior College and East Texas State University. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War in Pforzheim, Germany as a Military Police officer. After his service, Larry moved to Fort Worth where he met his wife, Judy when they both worked at General Dynamics. They were married on August 1, 1968 and later moved to Sidney where they owned and operated the grocery store. Larry worked at Comanche Feed and Seed and was the post master at the Sidney Post Office. He was active in the Sidney community as a member of the Sidney Lions Club, the school board, and Sidney Baptist church. Larry loved the Sidney community and always had a smile and a nice, long chat ready for everyone. He enjoyed sports, hunting, cars, telling stories, and playing a prank or two.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Judy (Gooch) Cheatham, parents Gus Cheatham and Myrtle (Russell) Cheatham and siblings Rusty Cheatham, Paula (Cheatham) Kiser.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Krista McCown (Mike) of Grand Prairie and Kendra Kearns (George) of Fort Worth, grandchildren Jackson Kearns and Paige McCown, his sisters Fluerette Connally (Tommy) and Diane Whitmire and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Memorials may be sent to the Sidney Community Fund or Hendrick Hospice Care.
