Lonnie Ray Jones, 63, entered into the glorious presence of his Savior at home on Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Comanche, Texas. He was born June 18, 1950 to Leonard Ray and Georgia (Vineyard) Jones in Gorman, Texas. After growing up in Granbury, he attended Hardin-Simmons University securing a Bachelor's in Bible and Journalism and later a Masters in Family Psychology. He also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary obtaining a Masters of Divinity. He entered the ministry serving multiple churches as Minister of Education and Youth, a pastor and concluded his career in counseling. On July 7, 1979 he married "the best thing that ever happened to him" Susan Gulick in San Antonio, Texas. Lonnie enjoyed reading, cooking (we're gonna miss those home-made biscuits), spreading God's Word, watching our "lately-losing" Dallas Cowboys and his chickens. Knowing Lonnie like we do, we imagine he is cutting-up and giving folks in heaven a hard time! Survivors include his wife Susan; his 2 daughters, Meredith and Kerith of Comanche; 1 brother, Jerry Vineyard and wife, Linda of Huntington, Texas; his father and mother-in-law, Jack and Beth Anne Gulick of San Antonio, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that would await him after his passing. Though we are all saddened that he left this earth when he was only 63, we know that he is safe and secure, celebrating with His Savior. Our warmest appreciation and thanks to our church family, our school families, our deacon body and many friends who have blessed our hearts with love and comfort. You make our unexpected journey easier and we love you. Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Monday night from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
