Lou Johnson

Nona Lou Layman Johnson was born on April 12, 1932 in Priddy, Texas to Alvin and Ida Mae (MacAliley) Layman and passed away on August 14, 2024 in Abilene at the age of 92.
She graduated from Gustine High School as the valedictorian of her graduating class. In 1955, she married Levie Sanford Johnson and was married to him for fifty-two years until his death in 2007. She and Levie were the parents of two daughters, Donna Johnson Kautz (David) and Danita Johnson Johnston (Paul), the grandparents of five grandchildren, Bobbie Johnston Hutchison (Justin), Kristi Kautz, Kayla Kautz Smyer (Michael), Zane Johnston (Emmy) and Leif Johnston (Morgan), and great-grandparents of eight great-grandchildren: Jude, Lola, Sloan, Max, Lucy, Nora, Lennon, and Mayer. Lou is also survived by two nieces: Sharla Johnson Cox (Eddie) and Kyra Johnson Crutchfield (Bruce) and their children and grandchildren: James Cox (Kim), Shelly Cox Clarkson (Tyler), Christopher Crutchfield (Carrie), Chuck Crutchfield, Cassandra Crutchfield, Samantha Cox, and Paisley Clarkson. Lou enjoyed a long career in banking, ultimately retiring from Comanche National Bank. She also served for many years as secretary for Comanche United Methodist Church. Lou was pre-deceased by her husband and her daughter Donna. A funeral service for Lou will be held on August 17, 2024 at Comanche Funeral Home at 10:00am with her son-in-law Coach Paul Johnston officiating. The family will receive friends at a visitation prior to the service at 9:30am at Comanche Funeral Home. A private burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in DeLeon with her family in attendance.
