Mary Lois

April 1, 1930 — July 11, 2024

Mary Lois (Evans) Gilliam passed away peacefully on July 11,2024, at the age of 94 in Odessa, Texas surrounded by family. Funeral services to be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, July 15th, at Comanche Funeral home with Robbie Stuteville officiating. Burial will follow at the Downing Cemetery.

Mary Lois was born on April 1, 1930, in Proctor, Texas, to JC Evans and Mamie Taylor Evans. She came from a large loving family of 12 children that she cherished. After graduating from DeLeon High School, Mary met and married the love of her life, Wayne Douglas (Curley) Gilliam from Comanche, Texas. They moved to Odessa, Texas, and had four children. Although she had her hands full with the children, she was able to obtain a nursing degree and worked for several years in the field. Mary and her husband Curley then opened an oilfield service company which became very successful due to hard work on both of their parts allowing them to retire early and return to their beloved hometown of Comanche.

They enjoyed their retirement while farming, ranching and growing vegetables in their garden. Mary had many talents. She was a nurse, Avon Representative and bookkeeper/office manager at Curley's Machine shop, gardener of fresh vegetables, and beautiful flowers, and organist at Taylor's Chapel Church. She was a kind, generous and sweet person to everyone she met.

Mary was beloved by so many and will be greatly missed. She was an inspiration to all and we were blessed to have her in our lives. We take solace in knowing that she is with the Lord Jesus Christ and her family and friends that have passed before her. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Self, of Odessa, Tx, and son Wayne D "Butch" Gilliam, Jr, and his wife Carrie of Odessa, Tx, 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Clayte and Mamie Evans, her husband, Curley Gilliam, and daughters, Lara Lee and June (Gilliam) Roberson, Sons-in-law, Ronnie Self and Freddy O Roberson, and all of her siblings.

The family also wishes to extend their gratitude to the Parks Nursing Home of Odessa and their staff. Also a "Thank you" to Hospice Care of Odessa for their attention and loving care given to our precious mom aka Grandma Mary.
