FUNERAL SERVICES: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 31, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Comanche. BURIAL: Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche. VISITATION: 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. LUNCH: Lunch for the family will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday at First Baptist Church Comanche. MEMORIALS: First Baptist Church, 407 N. Houston, Comanche, Texas 76442. Melba Jean (McGinnis) Murphree, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, in Comanche County, Texas. She was born on November 13, 1927, in Abilene, Texas, to Rev. Robert M. and Mamie Virginia (Lloyd) McGinnis. On September 19, 1947, she was united in marriage to Jessie Ray Murphree in Blanket. Jean worked as a church secretary for many years at First Baptist Church of Friona and First Baptist Church of Bridgeport. She was a homemaker and an outstanding cook. She had a talent for growing flowers, which was reflected in her beautiful yard. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Comanche. She is survived by her husband Jessie Ray Murphree of Comanche; two sons, Ray Lynn Murphree and wife Cheryl of Houston and Gary Michael Murphree and wife Phyllis of Temple; one daughter, Ginger Smiser and husband David of Blanco; six grandchildren, Marsha Burrus, Jason Murphree, Jennifer Snow, Lacey Caswell, Tim Smiser, and Michael Smiser; fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Welton McGinnis and Rev. Lloyd McGinnis; sister, Leland Duffee; grandson, Brian Smiser; and parents, Rev. Robert and Mamie McGinnis.
