MEMORIAL SERVICE: A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Raye Miller, age 91, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2016, in Comanche, Texas. She was born on May 27, 1924, in Wingate, Texas, to John Cecil and Emma Frances (Taylor) Gotcher. On February 29, 1940, she was united in marriage to John Burton Weems in Brownwood, Texas. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1952. For most of her working life, Raye was employed as a Nursing Home Administrator, working at nursing homes in Rising Star, Ballinger and Seminole, Brownwood Nursing and Rehab in Brownwood, Tulia and Santa Anna. Raye was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was an avid gardener and an excellent cook. She loved providing meals for her family, friends and neighbors. Candy making was another passion as well as decorating her home for every occasion and holiday. Ray lived at home in Comanche until February, 2016, when she moved to Western Hills Healthcare Residence. She was attended by her family during her illness and especially by her granddaughter, Carla “Missy” Crim, who cared for her with diligence and cheerfulness. Raye was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church in Dublin. She is survived by her son, John Burton Weems and wife Sheila of Stephenville; daughter, Janetta Weems Blackwell and husband Bobby of Comanche; son William Michael Weems of Comanche; thirteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and cousins, Toots Hull, Richard Hull, and Dan Hull, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carla Marie Weems; and parents, J.C. and Emma Gotcher.
