Roy Sliger, of Comanche, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 21,2024, at Western Hills nursing home at the age of 89.
He was born on April 12, 1934, in Comanche County, Texas, to Berett and Ruby Ethel (Goddard) Sliger. Roy was united in marriage to Peggy Modeen Gaines 34 years. She preceded him in death on February 25, 1997.
Mr. Sliger was self-employed and was the owner of Sliger Construction. His construction company did work all over Comanche and surrounding areas. He never took on a job that was too small or too large. Mr. Sliger also started a grave digging service, with his brother, T.W. Sliger. Roy and T.W. opened their first grave on November 15,1959. Roy and his brother would open these graves with a shovel, grubbing hole and sometimes even dynamite. In 1970, after 11 years of digging these graves manually, Roy and T. W. purchased their first backhoe. Roy enjoyed working on his backhoe daily and would state “I want to continue driving it as long as I can”. In March of 2023, climbing up into the backhoe and decline in physical health forced him to retire.
He is survived by numerous family and friends that will miss his work ethic, stories and humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Berett and Ruby Ethel Sliger, and by his brothers Walter Sliger, T.W. Sliger, and Kennith Sliger.
