FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel VISITATION: Family will receive friends at Comanche Fural Home on Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. LUNCH: Sacred Heart Catholic Church following the funeral service. Sherman Ray Franks, age 66, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. He was born on May 23, 1944, in Gorman, Texas, to Marvin Sherman Franks and Mildred Ray (Reed) Franks.  He enlisted in the United States Army and served three years in Germany. In 1966 Sherman went to work for an electronics company involved in completing space tracking stations for NASA’s Apollo Project and while working in Australia he met Marie Hodges. They were united in marriage on November 5, 1966, in Adelaide, South Australia. Sherman was an electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. As well as working on many industrial construction sites all over the United States he spent years on offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, Persian Gulf, and over ten years in the North Sea. He loved his family and friends and would do anything to help his neighbor. Sherman was a Baptist. He is survived by his wife, Marie Franks of Comanche; son Tim Franks of Comanche; son and daughter-in-law, James and Jennifer Franks of Providence Village; six grandchildren, Alexa, Skye, Jade, Jacob, Jordan and Joshua; sister, Patricia Spence of Comanche; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tony and Pat Hodges of Melbourne, Australia; brother-in-law, Peter Hodges of Adelaide, Australia; three nieces, two nephews; many cousins and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary Lynn Franks and Austen Frederic Zschiesche, and nephew, Christopher Franks.
