Shirley Jeannette Kirkland, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, in Brownwood, Texas. She was born on October 20, 1938, in the Baggett Community in Comanche County, Texas, to Jasper Applewhite and Sara Iva (Berna) Pettijohn. On May 26, 1956, she was united in marriage to Don Osborn Kirkland in Comanche. For 35 years she was Plant Manager for Sidran, Inc. in Brownwood. She was a faithful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Grosvenor Baptist Church and was song leader for eighteen years. She was a member of Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband, Don O. Kirkland of Brownwood; son, Terry D. Kirkland and wife Debra of Grosvenor; daughter, Valarie Kirkland of Bangs; daughter, Glenna Schoen and husband Royce of Brownwood; nine grandchildren: Donna Schoen, Misti Schoen, Randy Schoen, Kim Harvey and husband Bryan, Scotty Roberson and Angela Roberson, Ronnie Merrifield III and wife Danyelle, Kimberly Garza and husband Anthony, Stephanie Merrifield, and Lana Pummill and husband Benjamin; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters: Pat Nelson and Dorothy Sharp; brothers: Denny, Joe, and Bill Pettijohn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
