Ted Dunnegan, Jr., age 92, of Gustine, Texas, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014, in Temple, Texas. He was born on July 17, 1921 in Fort Worth, Texas to Ted and Winnie Dee (Burks) Dunnegan, Sr. Ted Dunnegan grew up in Gustine where he was raised by his grandmother, Emma Burks, and his great-grandmother, Martha (Aunt Matt) Barker. He graduated from Gustine High School in 1938 and then enrolled at the University of Texas in Austin. He graduated from the University in 1943 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Ted entered the U.S. Navy as a commissioned officer and served during W.W. II until 1945. He was united in marriage to Agnes H. Rosenbusch on March 7, 1942. After discharge from the Navy he and his wife, Agnes, and new son, Patrick, moved to Schenectady, New York, where he was employed as an engineer by the General Electric Company. They lived in New York for eight years during which they were blessed with a second son, Tommy. Ted received his first professional engineering license from the state of New York during this time. Ted and his family moved back to Dallas in 1953 and he worked in the aerospace industry there in various engineering and management positions until he retired from E-Systems in 1981. Ted and Agnes then returned to Gustine and built a new home in Gustine. Since his retirement, he served three years as secretary of the Gustine Volunteer Fire Department, three years on the Gustine City Council and three years as Gustine city Secretary. Starting in late 1997, Ted , located in Gustine, and son, Pat, located in Dripping Springs, started and operated an internet mail order business selling American Indian arrowheads and artifacts to customers all over the U.S.A. and overseas. The business was closed as of December 31, 2007 after a successful ten year operation. In recent years, 2008 to present, Ted and Agnes have been enjoying retirement hobbies at their home in Gustine. He is survived by his wife, Agnes (Rosenbusch) Dunnegan of Gustine; two sons, Pat Dunnegan of Austin; and Tommy Dunnegan and wife Cathy of Lamkin. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
