Truman Hazelrigg

Ellis Truman Hazelrigg, age 88, died May 31, 2023, at CARE Nursing and Rehabilitation in Brownwood, Texas. He was born September 7, 1934, in Pike County, Illinois to Marvin Ross Hazelrigg and Emma Marie Baker Hazelrigg. He attended West Pike High School where he excelled in basketball, baseball, and track. Afterwards, he attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, Illinois. There he met Sarah Jean Bailey and they married in 1956. He was drafted into the Army in 1957 and moved to Fort Chaffee, Arkansas where he served honorably for 2 years. In 1959, he was hired by the MoorMan Manufacturing Company in Quincy, Illinois. Four years later, the Hazelrigg family relocated to Comanche so Truman could open the new plant as Office Manager. In 1976, the family moved to Hereford, Texas where Truman managed the MoorMan plant. In 1985, he was brought back to Comanche as General Manager of the plant. His first wife, Sarah, died of cancer on December 29, 1993. Five months later, he retired from MoorMans as Regional Manager on May 31, 1994.

Truman was a member at the First Baptist Church of Comanche and served several years as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon. He also served on the Building Committee for the construction of the new church building. When his boys were young, he coached their little league baseball teams and loved taking them hunting and fishing. He was active in Kiwanis Clubs and served as President in both Comanche and Hereford, and also as Lt. Governor for the Texas-Oklahoma District. He loved golf and played often after he retired. He served on the Board of Directors of PAR Country Club where he met his second wife, Nancy Foreman Lane, who was the Business Manager there. Truman and Nancy were married on May 13, 1995. They loved to travel and managed to visit all 50 states in the 28 years they were married. He also loved to follow his grandchildren’s sports. He enjoyed watching baseball, football, and western movies on TV and was an avid reader of western books.

Survivors include: his wife, Nancy Hazelrigg of Comanche, TX; his sons - Thomas Kent Hazelrigg of Addison, TX and Jeffrey Paul Hazelrigg and wife Anna of Coppell, TX; daughter-in-law Linda Hazelrigg of Sugar Land, TX; step-son Billy Jack Lane, Jr. and wife Debra of Comanche, TX; sister Cleta Joan Pottorff and husband Al of Casa Grande, AZ; sister-in-law Jeanie Hazelrigg of Liberty, MO; his seven grandchildren - Jennifer Hazelrigg O’Donnell and husband Bodie, Andrew Hazelrigg, Kirstin Hazelrigg Hoffman and husband Ryan, Nicholas Hazelrigg, Meredith Hazelrigg, Sydney Hazelrigg, and Kent Hazelrigg; his two step-grandchildren - Ashley Lane and Billy Jack Lane III and his four great-grandchildren - Cooper Hazelrigg, Braxton Hazelrigg, KayeLee Lane, and Darlene Lane. Truman also has many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Truman was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Jean Bailey Hazelrigg; son, Stephen Scott Hazelrigg; brother, Clarence Dale Hazelrigg; brother, Phillip Randall Hazelrigg; and step-granddaughter, Debra Kay Lane.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at CARE Nursing and Rehabilitation of Brownwood and Alpha Omega Hospice for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Truman's name to the CCCHD Nursing Home Fund, 10201 Hwy 16 N., Comanche, Texas 76442.
