Vernon Gaines

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel. Vernon “Gator” Wayne Gaines, age 43, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, in Flowood, Mississippi. He was born on January 2, 1971, in Dublin, Texas to Victor Wayne and Martha Ann (Taylor) Gaines. Vernon began his career in law enforcement with the Comanche County Sheriff office and in 1996 he became employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety, until he retired in 2012. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Vernon dearly loved his children and was very proud of each of them. He was a loyal friend to many and will be remembered for his kind smile, hearty laugh and generous heart. He was a member of Hope Masonic Lodge #481 in Comanche Texas. He is survived by two sons, Kolby Gaines, and Ty Vaughn and wife Brenda; daughters, Kori Gaines, and Nicole Spivey and husband Adam; two grandchildren, Laken and Brayden; sisters, Vickie Sanders and husband Donald, Janella Harris, Rae Nail, Krisi Joiner and husband Steven; brother, Richard Gaines; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Martha Gaines and niece, Tammy Lyn Weaver.
