Vireta Lockridge

June 29, 1941 — August 15, 2024

Vireta Carolyn Feril was born June 21, 1941 in Eastland County, Texas to her Mother Lola Cox Feril and Father Ormal Russell Feril. She grew up in Sidney, Texas where she attended school, graduating from Sidney High School where she was on the basketball team.

She attended Howard Payne College where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education on January 25th of 1964. One month prior to that on Christmas Day in 1963, she married Homer Scott (Scotty) Lockridge with whom she would share the rest of her life.

She began teaching at Chance/Loeb High School not too long after moving to Beaumont, Texas and would teach there for the rest of her career. During this time she and Scotty enjoyed entertaining various nieces and nephews in Beaumont where they were much closer to the Texas beaches than most of them were growing up.

Carolyn’s teaching career was briefly interrupted for a few years starting in 1970 when her and Scotty’s only child Brian was born. Scotty, Carolyn and Brian would live in Beaumont and then Lumberton for many years, with Scotty and Carolyn returning to Beaumont in early 2024 for health reasons.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her mother and father as well as siblings, Janitta Jane Feril, Dwane Larry Feril, Carlton Cox Feril, Travis Frederic Feril and Dovia Feril Cox. She is survived by her husband Scotty Lockridge, son Brian Feril Lockridge, daughter-in-law Darbi and grandson Baron Austin Lockridge.
