MEMORIALS: If desired memorials may be made to Pendergrass Cemetery Association, 1101 CR 165, Sidney, Texas 76474 Wanona (Henson) Pinkard, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, in Brownwood, Texas. She was born on October 3, 1918, in Seneca, Missouri, to Elmer Oscar and Grace (Kelley) Henson. On February 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Reginald Clyde Pinkard in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1990. Wanona earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s degree in Botany from Oklahoma A. & M. In 1950 she was hired by Sidney I.S.D. She taught science and history and was the Principal. After retiring from Sidney I.S.D. in 1979, she taught for a year in Rising Star I.S.D. and then substituted for Sidney I.S.D. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her kindness was felt by all with whom she came into contact. Wanona was a member of First Christian Church in Brownwood. She is survived by one son, Ronald Pinkard and wife Deborah of Sidney; seven grandchildren: Kelley Cook, Danise Branning, David Pinkard, Michelle Pinkard, Melanie Glass, Melissa McDaniel, and Shawn Pinkard; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Steven Basil Pinkard on May 5, 2001, and Larry Lee Pinkard on December 2, 2012; one sister; and five brothers.
